FAQs

What is The Clay Pot Ceramics Studio?

The Clay Pot is a community ceramics studio in downtown Ukiah offering classes, workshops, memberships, and open studio time for artists, families, and makers of all levels. It’s a creative space to get your hands dirty, learn something new, and connect with others through the art of clay.

Do I need experience to join?

Not at all! We welcome complete beginners and experienced potters alike. Our classes and workshops and drop-in activities are designed for all skill levels — from first-time hand-builders to seasoned wheel throwers.

To become a member you need to have taken one of our classes.

What types of classes do you offer?

We offer a variety of classes, including:

  • Wheel throwing & handbuilding for adults (in 4-week sessions)

  • One-time wheel throwing classes for date nights or friends’ nights out

  • Family & kids’ clay classes

  • Open studio memberships for independent practice

Our class schedule changes seasonally, so be sure to check our calendar or sign up for our newsletter for updates. We send out our upcoming month’s calendar a few weeks in advance for the next month.

What’s included in a class?

Each class includes instruction, clay, studio tools, glazes, and firing. Finished pieces are usually ready for pickup within 2–3 weeks after your final class.

Can I drop in to use the studio?

Yes! Our studio is open for drop in activities like paint-a-pot or slab building templates anytime we are open.

Open studio time is also available for current members and enrolled students. If you’d like to become a member, check out our Memberships page for details on access hours, pricing, and perks.

Do you host private events or parties?

Yes! We love hosting creative gatherings. Whether it’s a birthday, team-building event, or girls’ night out, we can customize a clay experience for your group. Contact us to plan your private workshop.

How do I sign up for a class or membership?

You can register directly through our website once our schedule launches. Until then, join our newsletter and follow along on Instagram for updates and early registration openings.

What should I wear to class?

Clay can get messy — we recommend comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Aprons are available at the studio, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Can I bring my child?

Yes! We offer our staffed “kids zone” so you can bring your child while you take your class or enjoy open studio time and connecting with friends.

We also offer family-friendly classes and kids’ workshops designed for all ages. See our full schedule for specific kid friendly or family classes.

For adult classes, participants must be 16 or older unless otherwise noted.

Where are you located?

We’re located in downtown Ukiah, California — within walking distance of shops, cafés, and local art spaces. Exact address and parking info will be shared when we open our doors!
